1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") explains the standards that apply when using the Makao Hive Platform.

Its purpose is to:

• maintain a safe and trustworthy marketplace;
• protect tenants, landlords, property managers, verifiers and guides;
• preserve the integrity of property verification;
• prevent fraud and abuse;
• support compliance with applicable Kenyan laws.

This Policy forms part of the Terms of Service.

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to comply with this Policy.

2. Who This Policy Applies To

This Policy applies to every Platform user, including:

• tenants;
• prospective tenants;
• landlords;
• property managers;
• delegated managers;
• unit owners;
• verifiers;
• guides;
• publishers;
• administrators;
• visitors using public Platform features.

Users are responsible for ensuring that anyone acting on their behalf also complies with this Policy.

3. Lawful Use

The Platform may only be used for lawful purposes.

Users agree not to use the Platform in any way that:

• violates Kenyan law;
• infringes another person's rights;
• facilitates fraud;
• threatens Platform security;
• interferes with normal Platform operation.

4. Honest Information

Users must provide information that is accurate and truthful.

Examples include:

• property details;
• identity information;
• contact information;
• availability;
• pricing;
• photographs;
• walkthrough media;
• verification requests;
• payment information.

Knowingly providing false or misleading information is prohibited.

5. Property Listings

Users submitting property listings agree that they:

• have authority to publish the listing;
• have authority to manage the property;
• possess rights to uploaded media;
• will accurately describe the property;
• will promptly correct inaccurate information.

Listings must not intentionally misrepresent:

• location;
• price;
• amenities;
• availability;
• ownership;
• verification status;
• photographs;
• videos;
• floor plans.

6. Verification Integrity

Makao Hive places significant importance on the integrity of property verification.

Users must not:

• attempt to influence verification outcomes improperly;
• submit fabricated evidence;
• alter verification reports;
• impersonate a verifier;
• interfere with verification activities;
• present an unverified property as verified.

Verification badges remain the intellectual property of Makao Hive and may only be displayed through authorised Platform interfaces.

7. Viewing Tours

Viewing tours are intended to facilitate genuine property inspections.

Users must not:

• abuse scheduling systems;
• repeatedly book appointments without intention to attend;
• provide false attendance information;
• harass guides or property representatives;
• interfere with scheduled tours.

Property managers and landlords should make reasonable efforts to honour confirmed viewing arrangements.

8. Rental Applications

Applicants should provide truthful and complete information.

Users must not:

• impersonate another person;
• submit forged documents;
• knowingly provide false employment information;
• falsify income information;
• submit fraudulent references.

Landlords and property managers should assess applications fairly and in accordance with applicable law.

9. Respectful Conduct

All Platform interactions should remain respectful and professional.

Users must not engage in:

• harassment;
• intimidation;
• threats;
• discrimination;
• abusive language;
• hate speech;
• stalking;
• unwanted communications.

This applies to:

• messaging;
• support requests;
• viewing tours;
• verification visits;
• public comments where available.

10. Fraud and Deception

Users must not use the Platform to facilitate fraudulent activity.

Examples include:

• fake property listings;
• fake verification requests;
• identity fraud;
• payment fraud;
• phishing;
• impersonation;
• forged documents;
• misleading advertisements.

Makao Hive may cooperate with law enforcement where appropriate.

11. Intellectual Property

Users must only upload content they have the legal right to use.

Users must not upload:

• copyrighted photographs without permission;
• stolen content;
• copyrighted floor plans without authorisation;
• logos they are not entitled to use;
• proprietary documents belonging to others.

Users remain responsible for the legality of uploaded content.

12. Platform Security

Users must not attempt to compromise Platform security.

Prohibited activities include:

• hacking;
• password attacks;
• credential stuffing;
• denial-of-service attacks;
• malware distribution;
• reverse engineering security controls;
• bypassing authentication;
• exploiting vulnerabilities.

Any discovered security vulnerabilities should be reported responsibly to Makao Hive.

13. Automated Access

Users may not use automated tools to access the Platform except where expressly authorised.

Without prior written permission, users must not:

• scrape listings;
• harvest user information;
• crawl the Platform excessively;
• create automated accounts;
• interfere with Platform availability.

Authorised integrations must comply with applicable API documentation and Platform requirements.

14. Artificial Intelligence Services

Where AI-powered Platform features are available, users must not:

• intentionally submit malicious prompts;
• attempt to generate illegal content;
• exploit AI systems;
• use AI services to facilitate fraud;
• interfere with the operation of AI-powered features.

AI-generated content should be reviewed by users before relying upon it.

15. Communications

Users must not use Platform communication tools to send:

• spam;
• chain messages;
• unsolicited advertising;
• fraudulent offers;
• misleading promotions;
• malicious links.

Operational communications relating to legitimate Platform activity are permitted.

16. Privacy of Others

Users must respect the privacy of others.

Users must not:

• publish personal information without authorisation;
• upload confidential documents belonging to others;
• disclose another person's identity unlawfully;
• misuse information obtained through the Platform.

Personal information should only be used for legitimate purposes connected with Platform services.

17. Media Uploads

Media uploaded to the Platform should accurately represent the relevant property.

Users must not upload:

• manipulated images intended to deceive;
• unrelated property photographs;
• offensive material;
• unlawful content;
• malicious files.

Makao Hive may remove media that violates this Policy.

18. Prohibited Content

The following content is prohibited:

• unlawful material;
• sexually explicit material unrelated to legitimate property marketing;
• violent extremist content;
• discriminatory material;
• malicious software;
• fraudulent documents;
• misleading property advertisements;
• content promoting criminal activity.

19. Reporting Violations

Users are encouraged to report suspected violations of this Policy.

Reports may relate to:

• fraudulent listings;
• abusive behaviour;
• inaccurate verification claims;
• suspicious activity;
• security vulnerabilities;
• intellectual property concerns.

Makao Hive may investigate reported matters where appropriate.

20. Enforcement

Where this Policy is violated, Makao Hive may take action including:

• removing content;
• issuing warnings;
• suspending Platform features;
• cancelling viewing requests;
• removing verification badges;
• suspending accounts;
• terminating accounts;
• reporting unlawful conduct to appropriate authorities.

Enforcement decisions will generally take into account:

• severity;
• frequency;
• intent;
• user history;
• potential harm to others.

21. Appeals

Users who believe enforcement action was taken in error may contact Makao Hive for review.

Submission of an appeal does not guarantee reversal of an enforcement decision.

Makao Hive will review appeals in good faith based on the available information.

22. Changes to this Policy

Makao Hive may update this Policy from time to time to reflect:

• changes in law;
• Platform functionality;
• security requirements;
• operational improvements.

Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date.
